Bucket List item #006: Sea Organ — Croatia
The Sea Organ is a musical architectural marvel located in Zadar, Croatia. Designed by Croatian architect Nikola Bašić, the sea organ consists of a series of organ pipes laid underneath steps along the coast. As the current rises, water from crashing waves enters the tubes and creates beautiful music.
I can easily imagine myself sitting on those steps, enjoying the sound of the ocean’s music—maybe with a picnic basket and a group of friends, or even by myself with a good book on hand!
The steps of the Sea Organ are also a popular spot to watch the sunset. Once darkness falls, a circular installation at the top of the steps lights up with colorful, patterned lights.
The glass plates harness the sun’s energy during the day and, with help from the wave energy produced by the pipes, the lights put on quite the show! For this reason, the artist called this installation ‘Sun Salutation.’
The Sea Organ in Zadar, Croatia is an idyllic evening activity that is budget-friendly and can be enjoyed by solo travelers and groups alike! For these reasons, I can’t wait to see it when I make it to Croatia.
Have you ever been to Croatia?
